Why do some people criticize Ahmad Massoud?

Author: Mohibullah Noori, former head of policy at the Afghan National Security Council and current leader of the Heart of Asia Peoples' Integration Movement.

I have known and been friends with him for about two decades. I can say that I know him well. In addition to his father's outstanding political and popular authority, he is distinguished by his courtesy, wisdom, intelligence, rich talent, attractive social personality, and very high communication skills. The best characteristic of a leader is the correct vision and understanding of the goal, wisdom, and social and communicative intelligence, which he possesses well and knows where, with whom, what, and how to talk.

Therefore, in a short period of time, he not only presented himself as the leader of the Resistance and the only opponent of the Taliban on the battlefield but also took away the field of politics from many traditional leaders and the field of action from the artificial elite created by Ghani and foreign intelligence agencies. The whole art of the traditional leaders was that their political and military identity was resistance and, to that, you can add their social base and foreign relations, which Ahmad Masood very skillfully took away from them all these three addresses. All the art and excellence of young people created by Ghani are university education, exposure to the West, and the ability to speak English, but Ahmad Massoud took away this excellence from them because of his education in the West and his command of the English language.

To find out why the move of Masood the Second caused envy among many, it is worth paying attention to the above points. These achievements have caused the envy of many. Unfortunately, the enemy or even a number of friends are short-sighted. Instead of focusing on understanding the difficulties, understanding the nature of the enemy, and the depth of the disaster, they attack him, which is a kind of water to the enemy's mill. People should appreciate the alives. Ahmad Masud is a precious treasure. Don't expect miracles from him. In the past two years, he has shone with the fewest opportunities and support better than all the traditional leaders.

His presence was so effective that foreign intelligence agencies began to recruit new leaders and form new fronts against him. Therefore, it was difficult for me to even write about recent martyrs. On the one hand, the martyrdom of these youths in an unequal battle is painful, and on the other hand, their compulsion to follow unknown leaders and fronts is painful. Attention to this issue is important and vital for our people from two points of view: firstly, as we all know, half a century of sacrifices and achievements of our people were destroyed not only by the enemy but mainly by unknown and infiltrated intelligence elements. In the future, ignoring this issue may discredit the resistance and sacrifices of our people.

Secondly, Ahmad Massoud has the necessary trust and legitimacy among the people, and there are many people who will give him the right to do so. But who do these self-proclaimed fronts and their leaders represent, and what kind of legitimacy do they have among the people, apart from the support of the special services? We need a concerted front and legitimate and credible leadership. A leader who gets his legitimacy from the people, not from the secret services.

Currently, only Ahmad Massoud enjoys this trust and legitimacy. Given the necessary time, he has the ability and talent to free himself from the onslaught of criticism. He struggles with many difficulties. First, he needs internal cohesion and restoration of the shattered trust shattered in the last two decades by the disloyal and otherwise cruel stones of the National Hero's succession claimants. Secondly, it needs logistical, financial, and comprehensive support at the national, regional, and international levels. In this regard, he has a long way to go.

It is claimed that he is surrounded by a circle or a few people who have monopolized everything. According to Ustad Akram Andeshamand, firstly, there must be something that can be monopolized. If such a statement is true, then you should know that it is a product of the social context and tradition imposed on it. It is natural to make a deliberate choice, especially relying on and trusting those circles whose experience and support he still needs. In this context, instead of criticism and envy, he needs help, he needs a circle of young and motivated fighters who will help him in the transition from these traditional circles to the difficult path to freedom.

In this context, I personally was one of the first to write to him a year and a half ago instead of public criticism. In this letter, I shared my concerns with him. I stated that it was important to know what caused our defeat and the destruction of all the achievements that have been achieved in half a century of struggle and the blood of millions of martyrs. I emphasized that the Resistance Front will be able to understand this and prevent those mistakes from being repeated.

In the same letter, I emphasized that the trust earned by the sweat and blood of the National Hero and other martyrs must be revived. I emphasized that it could be revived with the inclusion of representatives of all provinces in the leadership and the participation of the people in the decision-making of the Front. The front must become nationwide and all-encompassing, and representatives of all provinces of the country must participate in its decisions. This demand is the right of the people.

When I raise these questions, the reader may imagine that I am a member of the Resistance Front or that I place certain hopes in him in this regard. No! Despite the fact that I was one of the first to play a key role at the beginning of the Second Resistance by going to Takhar, I do not play any role on this Front and do not expect anything from it. Therefore, my support for Ahmad Massoud is without the slightest expectation. Moreover, today some people do not spend their forces against the enemy, but inhumanly mobilize against him and spare no effort to discredit the Resistance Front. Therefore, I considered it necessary to write this text.
