The protests began in the Daraim district and reached Argu, Jurm, and Yaftal.
FAIZABAD, May 04 – “Sangar”, Jamshid Badakhshi. Our sources report that these protests are related to the removal of the Pashtun governor of the Taliban in Badakhshan.
Sources say there are dead and wounded among the protesters. The Taliban shot and killed a 25-year-old man named Basit son of Nasser, a resident of the village of Gandachashma in Argu district, and seven other protesters were injured. Several Taliban Ranger vehicles were also damaged.
The number of protesters who surrounded the district administration building is increasing. The Taliban forces, who came from the center to suppress the protesters, left the territory.
Protests began yesterday (May 3) in the village of Qarlyq in the Daraim district of Badakhshan province. The reason for the protest was that during the destruction of poppy fields in this village, the Taliban also destroyed the wheat fields. People took to the streets in protest and chanted the slogan “Death to the Emirate!”
In the first clash, one person named Nizamuddin was killed and another was injured.
Residents claim that Pashtuns have moved into people's homes and occupied government offices, and the rights of the area's Tajiks are being violated.
Also yesterday, there was a clash between militants of two Taliban commanders - Mawlawi Mahbubullah Khustaki, commander of the Taliban division in Badakhshan, and Dadmuhammed, one of the local commanders in the village of Uskan in Jurm district. As a result, one of Dadmuhammed's men named Nuruddin was wounded by Abdulmanan, one of Mawlawi Mahbubullah's militants.
The situation is also ambiguous in the Nusay district, which borders Tajikistan. The Taliban leadership wants to remove Mawlawi Juma Darwazi, the head of Nusay district, from his post and appoint him to the Taliban brigade in Baharak. He expressed his dissatisfaction and threatened the Taliban leadership through personal channels that he would join ISIS.
Sangar sources also report protest actions in Yaftal and Jurma. In these districts, traders closed the doors of their shops in solidarity with the protesters in Daraim and Jurm.
SPECIAL FROM SANGAR: According to previously received information, these events do not bring any good news for the anti-Taliban resistance. The Taliban leadership wants to replace the provincial governor and its security chief, who are Pashtuns, and appoint Tajiks instead. The outcome of these protests appears to be related to this purpose. In turn, our sources among the Taliban say that the appointment of the Tajik leadership in Badakhshan is part of the program of igilization of Badakhshan.
